(5 Stars on Google) I booked an all-day (8 hr) plaice fishing experience in June 2019 with Martyn as a gift for my boyfriend Jake. We departed from Kingswear on a chartered boat in the early morning (along with a few other anglers) and returned at 5.30pm. We are both beginners, and Martyn coached us throughout the day, providing all the required bait and tackle. We had the most wonderful time, and caught huge amounts of plaice despite our inexperience.
Martyn is an incredibly kind and patient fishing coach. He is extraordinarily attentive and extremely polite. It was a real pleasure to spend the day with him. He has a huge amount of knowledge to share, and is very passionate, which is a delight! He is hugely organised and will tailor your lesson / trip to suit your particular requirements.
A real gem. I would highly recommend. We will definitely be in touch to organise another trip with him soon.

From beginning to end the service I have received from Martyn has been exceptional. I've wanted to learn to fly fish for some time now and came across his services on a Google search. From the moment I booked a 3 hour lesson with a friend, Martyn's communication has been excellent. All necessary information was provided and he was always available for any questions I had.
The lesson itself, at Hatchlands Fishery in Rattery, was thorough, informative, relaxed and fun! Martyn is a highly skilled teacher and has the best attributes for anyone trying to teach something - exceptional knowledge, patience and a genuine passion for his sport. Within 90 minutes I felt confident and more capable, and Martyn was on hand to provide hints and tips and to correct any mistakes. By the end of the 3 hours I was hooked (pardon the pun!) and Martyn was able to give plenty of advice on what equipment and tackle to buy. He also provided us with a pack of useful information regarding different types of fly for the different seasons, casting techniques etc.

The 3 hour lesson offered exceptional value for money, with all kit provided, one to one tuition and the comfort that Martyn is still available for any questions I may have in the future. I really cannot rate Martyn and his lessons highly enough. I left with 3 beautiful rainbow trout, much more knowledge than I started with and a passion for a new hobby!
